Sona College of Technology Salem is one of the college by Sona Group. The College was established in 1997 to provide higher education in the field of Engineering, Technology, Management, and Computer Applications. It is approved by AICTE and by UGC with an ‘Autonomous Status’, and is working under the jurisdiction of Anna University, Tamilnadu. The College is accredited by NBA and NAAC. Government of India and AICTE approved the college to admit NRI students and children of Indian workers in Gulf countries under Supernumerary quota.

Sona College of Technology Admissions

Students for the above-mentioned courses are elected provisionally subject to the confirmation from the affiliating university or the Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai. The selection modes for these programs are:

• BE / B.Tech: Based on the cut off marks in the 12^th class. (Cut off marks = 100 for Mathematics and 100 for Physics and Chemistry)
• ME / M.Tech: Based on Entrance Test: GATE / CET / TANCET.
• MCA: Based on Entrance Test: CET / TANCET.
• MBA: Based on Entrance Test: TANCET / MAT / CET.

Apart from qualifying in the above entrance exams, students must meet the eligibility requirements to apply for the respective courses. The eligibility criteria for the courses are:

• Passed 12^th with 45% minimum marks in the relevant subjects with PCM as three of the four subjects or passed 12^th in Vocational stream as prescribed by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

• Passed Bachelor’s degree (minimum 3 years) with a score of 50% or higher, or
• Passed 10^th plus 3 years Diploma plus graduation, or
• Passed B.E / B.Arch / B.Tech / B.Pharm, or
• Passed 12^th plus AMIE, or
• Passed matric plus 3 years diploma plus AMIE

• Passed BCA or UG degree in Computer Science Engineering or other degree equal to it with at least 50% marks, or
• Passed B.A, B.Com, B.Sc, with Mathematics subject at 12^th or at graduation level with at least 50% marks (Also additional bridge courses according to the University norms)

• Passed BE / B.Tech degree or 12^th +AMIE or 10^th + 3 years diploma + AMIE with a score of 50% or higher in the qualifying exam
• 5% relaxation in the minimum eligible marks allowed for reserved category candidates in all the programs.

* AMIE: Candidates with section A and B certificates or alike certificate of professional bodies recognised by MHRD, Government of India are considered equivalent to B.E / B.Tech degree holders. They must also have a work experience certificate of two years in the relevant field.

The College students can avail scholarship benefits from a number of scholarships under Management Schemes, Government Schemes, and Private Sector Schemes. Students of BE / B.Tech with extraordinary GATE or TANCET score can apply for the Meenakshi Aachi Scholars program. Some of the scholarships granted by the college with their eligibility criteria are given in the table below:

• Annual family income should not exceed Rs. 1,00,000
• Students other than first year should satisfy the following conditions:

1. There should not have any arrears in any subject
2. Must have 95% overall attendance in the qualifying year

• Candidates belonging to BC / MBC – SWS only can apply
• Annual family income should not exceed Rs. 1,00,000

• Candidates who score 80% and above marks in 12^th

• Candidates who score 60% and above marks in 12^th and their annual family income is less than Rs. 50,000

• Minority class students (Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, and Buddhist) who score 60% and above marks in the qualifying exam

• Engineering, Geo Sciences, and MBA candidates belonging to SC / ST class and whose parental income is less than Rs 1,50,000 p.a. can apply
