The official XAT website currently lists 95 questions in total.

The official site currently describes the first three sections within a 170-minute period and General Knowledge within 10 minutes, for a total of 180 minutes.

Is There Sectional Time Limit in XAT 2027?

According to the official XAT FAQ, there are no sectional time limits. Candidates can access the sections throughout the examination and switch between sections.

This is an important difference from several other management entrance examinations.

Candidates should therefore develop a strategy that allows them to spend more time on sections where they are strongest while maintaining sufficient time for all sections.

XAT 2027 Marking Scheme

The official XAT website currently states:

  • +1 mark for every correct answer.
  • −0.25 mark for every incorrect answer.
  • The official detailed examination instructions should be checked for the applicable unattempted-question penalty and any section-specific provisions.
  • GK has separate treatment under the examination rules.

Candidates should read the instructions displayed during the actual examination before beginning the test.

XAT 2027 Syllabus

The XAT syllabus covers four major areas: VALR, Decision Making, QA & DI and General Knowledge.

Unlike some other MBA entrance examinations, XAT gives substantial importance to Decision Making, so candidates should include it in their preparation from the beginning.

XAT 2027 Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning Syllabus

The VALR section tests candidates' ability to understand, analyze and interpret written information.

Important topics include:

  • Reading comprehension
  • Vocabulary
  • Grammar
  • Para jumbles
  • Critical reasoning
  • Analytical reasoning
  • Sentence completion
  • Inference-based questions
  • Poems
  • Cartoons
  • Passages
  • Verbal logic

The official XAT website specifically mentions critical and analytical reasoning, reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, para jumbles and cloze-type exercises.

How to Prepare for VALR

Read newspapers, editorials, long-form articles and quality non-fiction regularly. Practice reading comprehension under time limits and focus on understanding the author's argument rather than simply locating keywords.

XAT 2027 Decision Making Syllabus

Decision Making is one of the most distinctive sections of XAT.

Questions are based on situations that may require candidates to evaluate:

  • Business situations
  • Workplace scenarios
  • Ethical dilemmas
  • Resource allocation
  • Prioritization
  • Stakeholder interests
  • Problem-solving
  • Critical thinking
  • Data-based decisions
  • Personal and professional situations

The official XAT website describes Decision Making questions as scenarios from personal and professional life that require critical thinking, problem-solving and prioritization.

How to Prepare for Decision Making

Do not approach Decision Making questions like conventional mathematics or reasoning questions. Instead:

  • Identify the core problem.
  • Separate facts from assumptions.
  • Consider all stakeholders.
  • Avoid extreme or emotionally biased choices.
  • Compare the consequences of each option.
  • Practice previous XAT Decision Making sets.

Regular practice is particularly important because the section has a question style that may be unfamiliar to candidates preparing only for CAT.

XAT 2027 Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation Syllabus

The QA & DI section tests numerical ability and data interpretation.

Quantitative Aptitude Topics

Important areas include:

  • Arithmetic
  • Percentages
  • Profit and loss
  • Ratio and proportion
  • Averages
  • Time and work
  • Time, speed and distance
  • Simple and compound interest
  • Number systems
  • Algebra
  • Linear equations
  • Quadratic equations
  • Geometry
  • Mensuration
  • Probability
  • Permutation and combination
  • Modern mathematics

XAT 2027 General Knowledge Syllabus

The General Knowledge section contains questions covering static GK and current affairs.

The current official XAT pattern lists:

  • 8 static GK questions
  • 12 current affairs questions

for a total of 20 GK questions.

Important GK Areas

  • Business and economy
  • Indian polity
  • Geography
  • History
  • Science and technology
  • International affairs
  • Awards
  • Sports
  • Important personalities
  • Government schemes
  • Companies and brands
  • Major national and international events

Candidates should regularly follow current affairs rather than attempting to study the entire news history immediately before the exam.

XAT 2027 Preparation Strategy

A strong XAT preparation strategy should combine concept building, Decision Making practice, reading, mock tests and previous-year questions.

Phase 1: Build Concepts

Start by completing the fundamentals of:

  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • Verbal Ability
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Data Interpretation

At the same time, begin practicing Decision Making.

Phase 2: Solve Previous-Year Questions

Previous-year XAT questions help candidates understand the actual style of the examination.

Pay particular attention to:

  • Decision Making cases
  • RC passages
  • Quantitative questions
  • DI sets
  • Questions where multiple options appear reasonable

Phase 3: Take Mock Tests

Start with one mock test to understand your current level.

Then gradually increase the frequency.

After every mock, analyze:

  • Questions answered incorrectly
  • Questions left unanswered
  • Time spent per section
  • Guessing errors
  • Weak topics
  • Questions that consumed too much time

XAT 2027 Preparation Plan

6 Months Before the Exam

  • Complete basic concepts.
  • Start daily reading.
  • Practice Decision Making every week.
  • Build a vocabulary notebook.
  • Solve basic QA and DI questions.

3 Months Before the Exam

  • Increase sectional practice.
  • Start regular mock tests.
  • Solve previous-year XAT papers.
  • Focus on Decision Making.
  • Revise weak topics.

Last Month

  • Take full-length mocks regularly.
  • Analyze every mock.
  • Revise formulas.
  • Practice RC daily.
  • Revise important current affairs.
  • Avoid learning large numbers of new topics at the last minute.

XAT 2027 Mock Tests

Mock tests should be used not to measure your score but also to improve your strategy.

After each test divide questions into three categories:

Easy: Should have been answered correctly.

Moderate: Requires practice.

Difficult: May not be worth spending time on during the actual examination.

This analysis can be more valuable than taking a large number of mocks without reviewing them.

XAT 2027 Admit Card

The official XAT website currently lists 20 December 2026 as the admit-card download date. Candidates should download their admit card from the website and verify all examination details.

  • Candidate name
  • XAT ID/roll details
  • Examination centre
  • Examination date
  • Reporting instructions
  • Test timing
  • Candidate instructions

Candidates should follow the documents and items permitted by XLRI in the official examination instructions.

XAT 2027 Result

According to the official XAT FAQ the result is expected approximately three weeks after the examination.

Candidates can use their login details to access their scorecard after the result is released.

The scorecard may contain sectional and overall performance information used during the admission process.

XAT 2027 Cutoff

There is no single XAT cutoff applicable to every B-school.

Cutoffs can vary according to:

  • Institute
  • Programme
  • Category
  • Applicant pool
  • Sectional performance
  • Overall percentile
  • Academic profile
  • Work experience
  • Interview performance

Therefore, candidates should not assume that one particular percentile guarantees admission to every XAT-accepting college.

XLRI Admission Through XAT

XLRI Jamshedpur accepts XAT scores for its management programmes according to the programme- admission requirements.

Candidates interested in XLRI programmes need to select the programme during the XAT application process and pay the additional programme fee specified by XLRI.

Candidates should remember that registering for XAT does not automatically guarantee admission to XLRI or any other participating institute. Each institute can have its selection process and eligibility requirements.

XAT Accepting Colleges

XAT scores are accepted by management institutes across India.

The official XAT website currently states that the examination is accepted by 250+ B-schools.

Candidates should check the colleges admission notification for:

  • XAT cutoff
  • Application deadline
  • Programme eligibility
  • Selection process
  • Fees
  • Placement information
  • Interview requirements

XAT 2027 Preparation Tips

Start Decision Making preparation early.

Read content every day.

Practice QA concepts systematically.

Solve DI sets regularly.

Maintain a current-affairs notebook.

Solve previous-year XAT papers.

Take tests under timed conditions.

Analyze mistakes after every mock.

Avoid spending much time on one difficult question.

Build a section-switching strategy because XAT permits candidates to move between sections

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Ignoring Decision Making

Many CAT-focused candidates underestimate this section. It should be part of your preparation from the beginning.

Preparing GK at the Last Minute

Follow affairs regularly instead of trying to memorize everything during the final week.

Taking Mocks Without Analysis

A test is useful only when you analyze why questions were wrong skipped or time-consuming.

Overattempting

Negative marking means random guessing can reduce your score.

Ignoring Reading

Strong reading skills help with VALR. Can also improve performance in Decision Making.

XAT 2027 Exam Day Strategy

On exam day:

Reach the test centre according to the reporting instructions.

Carry the required documents.

Read the instructions carefully.

Begin with a section that gives you confidence.

Keep track of time.

Don't spend long on one question.

Use the ability to switch sections strategically.

Attempt questions after evaluating accuracy versus time.

The official XAT FAQ confirms that candidates can switch between sections because there are no sectional time limits.
