I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University

I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU), Amritsar Campus, is one of the prominent constituent campuses of IKGPTU, Jalandhar, established in the year 2014 with the vision of expanding access to quality higher education in the border belt of Punjab and providing opportunities to students who might otherwise find it difficult to pursue technical and professional studies in urban hubs. Situated on the G.T. Road near Chheharta inside the premises of Government Polytechnic College and in close proximity to Guru Nanak Dev University, the campus enjoys a strategic location with excellent connectivity. The Amritsar campus was set up by the Government of Punjab to decentralize education and bring modern academic facilities to rural and semi-urban regions, thereby empowering the youth of this border district. The campus offers a variety of programs including B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, along with postgraduate degrees like M.Tech and MCA, thus catering to both undergraduate and postgraduate aspirations. Over the years, the institute has developed into a hub of academic excellence, providing smart classrooms, advanced laboratories, and a well-equipped library with thousands of books, journals, and digital learning resources. It also has seminar halls, an auditorium for cultural and academic events, and a dedicated conference hall with modern audio-visual systems to host guest lectures, workshops, and training sessions. A strong emphasis is placed on sports and holistic development, with extensive facilities such as grounds for cricket, football, volleyball, athletics, and indoor setups for badminton, chess, and carrom, ensuring students grow not just academically but also physically and socially. Health and welfare services are also available on campus with a medical center providing basic first-aid. To support employability, the campus maintains an active Training and Placement Cell that prepares students for industry needs through pre-placement talks, soft-skill development, and regular interactions with recruiters, ensuring strong career pathways. Scholarships and financial assistance are provided for meritorious students and those from SC, ST, and OBC backgrounds, reflecting the institution’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. With its modern infrastructure, academic rigor, industry exposure, and focus on all-round development, the Amritsar Campus of IKGPTU has quickly established itself as a reliable destination for technical and professional education in Punjab, carrying forward the legacy of the university which was originally founded in 1997 and later named after former Prime Minister I.K. Gujral to honor his contribution to the nation. This campus stands as a testimony to the university’s mission of bringing world-class learning closer to students of border districts while nurturing innovation, research, and entrepreneurship for the future.
