University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University is a premier institute of pharmaceutical education and research assigned NIRF Rank 2 in the country. The institute set up in the pre-independent India, at Lahore, in 1944 has a prestigious and long history. The institute hosted Pharmaceutical Sciences Oration by a Nobel Laureate, Prof. Ben Feringa and other mega events including global alumni meet to commemorate its Platinum Jubilee Year in 2019.
Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) approved B. Pharmacy (4 year) program and M. Pharmacy courses in 6 disciplines: Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Analysis, and Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance are offered at UIPS. The doctoral (Ph.D.) degree is offered in all emerging areas of pharmaceutical sciences. Currently, 227 B. Pharm., 140 M. Pharm., > 50 Ph.D are registered at UIPS.Senior visionaries set high standards and commitment for research and teaching at UIPS. The institute proudly banks on one of the best and largest faculty, on board of any Pharmacy institution, in the country. Stanford University, USA, listed 8 faculty of UIPS among the top 2% scientists across the globe in the field of Pharmacy & Pharmacology. The faculty has been honoured with prestigious awards like Amrut Mody Research Foundation Award, Ranbaxy Research Award, Lifetime achievement awards, UNIDO Scientific Adviser, DBT Technology award, OPPI awards, BRICS Technology award, Best Teacher Awards, US-Fullbright fellowship, Commonwealth & BOYSCAST fellowships to name a few. Professor Emeritus of UIPS, Late Professor Harkishan Singh, an iconic figure and a pharmacy legend, was bestowed with Padma Shri, in 2017.
More than 1800 graduates, almost 1300 Postgraduates and 255 Ph.Ds are the proud alumni of the institute. UIPS has been accorded SAP/DSA, COSIST, CAS & DST-FIST by various national agencies. We are the only pharmacy institute in the country assigned UGC-NRC program. Mission of the latter is to empower pharmacy teachers across the nation by sharing knowledge, infrastructure, and expertise available at UIPS. The college has tie-ups with Orbit Biosciences, Elemi Herbs, and SVP Life Sciences. Himalaya Meditek Pvt. Ltd and Narbriton Pharmaceuticals have also collaborated with the UIPS, which is beneficial to the students.
The college also gets summer internships for students. Internships are an integral part of academic life where students get industry exposure. The institute has a capacity and skill development cell to develop soft skills. The cell also works on the language skills of students so that they feel confident. Many activities are held throughout the college to help students develop these skills.
Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences Infrastructure and Facilities
UIPS has a beautiful campus that is all green. The air and surroundings are very clean on the campus due to the location. The college has many facilities like active clubs, societies, labs, etc.
Clubs: The College has a Pharmacognosy Club which gives knowledge about herbal products and medicinal plants. The pharmaceutics and Pharmacology clubs are also present on campus. The clubs and societies help students in academics along with vocational learning.
Laboratories: The College has instrument labs where students and scholars do R&D activities in the pharmaceutical sciences. There is also a machine room with all the equipment used for the projects. The college has a pharmaceutics lab as well with all the technology and machines. It has an anatomy and physiology lab where students get to know about the many organs of the human body.
Other Facilities: A top-class library with many copies of books, journals, magazines, and electronic journals, among other things are also available. On campus, there is always access to medical facilities for students and staff members.
